Nostalgie, dédoublement et écriture dans Histoire de ma vie

This study addresses the numerous dual structures apparent in Sand's work, and her choice of æsthetic idealism, and traces them back to her family constellation and childhood experiences and fantasies as related in Histoire de ma vie. It analyzes Sand's progressive move from spoken to written narrative by identifying various manifestations of her insistent nostalgia for a lost object, symbolic splittings between good and bad objects and instances of specularity that point to the formation, or rather the uncertainty, of the ego.
