Flaubert and Juliet Herbert: A Postscript

Stresses the importance of the "1er exemplaire" of the Tentation de Saint Antoine inscribed "A Juliet Herbert son vieux Gustave" included in the Flaubert centenary exhibition in Paris in 1980 but dismisses the alleged copy inscribed "A ma fiancée." Argues reasons why Juliet, whose pupils as well as those of her sister Marian were still living, probably felt compelled to destroy Gustave's letters to her. Sets out circumstantial evidence for Juliet's visits to Paris in 1872, 1874, 1877, and 1878 and summarizes evidence for concluding that the year of Gustave's first visit to London was 1865, not 1866.
