Le Verrières D'Autant-Lara: Equivoque stendhalienne et cinéma

The Stendhalian novel is a perfect example of a text which can be simultaneously perceived and not-perceived by the reader, therefore leading to an imaginary world with multiple meanings. This writing, consisting of subtle networks which create factors of substitutions, echoes, counterpoints, is not easily transferred into the cinematographic world where each shot offers a raw material immediately perceived as a unique and present reality. Any visual transposition of Verrières necessitates a dynamic orchestration of time and space, a filmic structure preventing any concrete representation and allowing an active participation on the part of the view.
